Incapable. Awkward. Artless.
That’s what the other girls whisper behind her back. But sixteen year-old Adelice Lewys has a secret: she wants to fail.
Gifted with the ability to weave time with matter, she’s exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But if controlling what people eat, where they live and how many children they have is the price of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested.
Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and wove a moment at testing, and they’re coming for her—tonight.
Now she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her Dad’s stupid jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape.
Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back.

I don't normally do this and I have nothing to gain by doing this but I had to let you know about one of the most awesome contests I've seen in a while. If you're between 13 and 18 and you enjoy writing music, you should totally enter this contest to compose an original track for the Crewel book trailer and you could win £300 of iTunes vouchers. Visit the Facebook page here for full details and I would highly recommend reading the extract from the book (details on the Facebook page) to give you some inspiration.
I have no ability to make video's or book trailers but this contest is RIGHT UP MY STREET. Sadly, I'm too old to enter (boo) but I thought "what the hell" and had a go anyway, so here's my offering and I hope it spurs you on...

If it's any help, I was using an old keyboard which is just about ready for the bin, I had a raging sore throat and I have no equipment to record anything so I used my iPhone. The point I'm making is that if I can do it, then SO CAN YOU so have a go and see what you come up with! If nothing else, it's a bit of fun :)
Good luck to all of those who enter!!!
This sounds awesome!! Thanks so much for letting us know about it! I'm definitely going to go and give itca shot, don't know if the result will be anything half decent though... ;)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!!!
DeleteOh goodness, is that really what the UK cover looks like? Eeeeesh. That's awful. Thank goodness for my pretty US cover!
ReplyDeleteHaha, it's really too bad you couldn't enter for reals!
That's why I've ordered the US version ;) I know, it sucks :(
