Letterbox Love (#51)

As always, Letterbox Love is a weekly feature that I'm hosting on the blog and basically, the idea came out of a discussion with other UK book bloggers about the need to do a weekly meme with more of a British feel to it. Therefore, Letterbox Love was born and the logo was lovingly designed by Dark Readers. Letterbox Love is a way for us to share the books that come through our letterbox, galleys and e books (through our electronic letterbox) and any other bookish goodies that we want to tell you about. Letterbox Love is intended to showcase upcoming books and build up some excitement for them as well as let you know what is available out there. It is not about competing with other bloggers or boasting of any kind (c'mon, we're British and we don't do drama!)

Review Books

Lockwood & Co by Jonathan Stroud
I have never read a Jonathan Stroud book but I would really like to give this one a go as it's the first book in a new series.  This is the tagline: "When the dead return to haunt the living, Lockwood & Co step in".  Yep, this sounds right up my street.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
This is a debut dystopian novel SET IN ENGLAND and the movie rights have sold even before the novel is published.  The author is 22 years old and this is apparently the first of several books in this new series.

Goddess by Josephine Angelini
Do I even need to tell you just how much I love this series and how much I have been DYING to read this?!  I can't believe it's finally here (well, this month) and this is definitely going to be my next read.  With this series, Josephine has earned guaranteed status as an automatic pre order now.

Doll Bones by Holly Black
This is billed as a chilling ghost story and it certainly sounds it after reading the synopsis.  I don't do creepy books all that well but as it's Holly Black, I'd be willing to give it a try.  The sadist in me wants to leave this and read it over Halloween and so we shall see ;)

Thank You Publishers!!!

Books Bought

The Elite by Kiera Cass
I love this series, I love the book and I love Maxon.  In what universe did you think that I wouldn't buy this in hardback? LOL

The Program by Suzanne Young
I've been wanting to read this FOREVER and it was finally released recently.  With one of the most striking book covers I've seen this year, and one of the most interesting plots, I can't wait to get stuck in. I've heard amazing things from across the pond for this book.

The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa
I thought The Immortal Rules was an EPIC book and so even though they changed the book cover design *grumbles* I had to get this.  I love Julie's writing.

Ebooks

No Attachments by Tiffany King (Bought)
A New Adult contemporary romance that has just been released and I have to admit that the hype from others pushed me to buy it.  Thankfully, I waited until it was on sale.

Real by Katy Evans (Bought)
I bought this because of my very good friend and fellow blogger Emma who told me that it was an amazing book and I have to read it.  I trust her so I bought it.  It's a New Adult contemporary romance with a sexy underground fighter by the sounds of things.  Yum.

Rock My Bed by Michelle A. Valentine (Bought)
This is part of the Rock My Heart series and Riff's story this time.  I really enjoyed the first book and I'm looking forward to finding out more about Riff.  I hear it's a scorching book and might just tempt my heart away from Noel. We shall see ;)

Jules the Bounty Hunter by Katie Ashley (Bought)
Katie Ashley has become one of my favourite indie authors and so basically, this week I've been snapping up all her titles.  This is actually her YA offering and even though I have a review copy I've not read yet, I've bought a 'real' copy for my kindle collection.

The Guardians by Katie Ashley (Bought)
Another one of Katie's titles, this is about angels and I'm always curious to see how people can write about a tired subject, how they make it fresh and exciting.  Looking forward to finding out.

Don't Hate The Player, Hate The Game by Katie Ashley (Bought)
This is Katie's newest release and what an interesting and fresh synopsis.  This sounds like a bit of a tearjerker to me so I'll be sure to have the tissues on standby.

The Crimson Hunt by Victoria H. Smith (Free)
I got this because it's marketed as a New Adult Sci Fi Romance and that immediately sparks my interest. I have no real idea what it's about but sometimes the discovery is the best part.

Small Medium at Large by Joanne Levy (Bought)
I've been meaning to get this for some time now but recently, it was on sale.  Although it's Middle Grade (I don't read a lot if any MG) I think it's one of the best titles for a book I've ever seen and it looks like a cute read.

The Rose Throne by Mette Ivie Harrison (For Review)
This is a fantasy romance novel about two princesses and I think it sounds utterly intriguing.  I've not read one of Mette's books before (although I've always wanted to read Tris and Izzie) and so I'm looking forward to reading this!  Massive thanks to Mette for letting me read and review it.

Young Haikor (The Rose Throne prequel) by Mette Ivie Harrison (Bought)
I don't like reading books without reading a prequel, either before or after as it often adds to the story and as it was cheap and I plan to read and review The Rose Throne, I had to get it.

This Girl by Colleen Hoover (Netgalley)
I'm glad I got this one for review as the kindle version is a little pricey. This is a re-telling of Slammed from Will's point of view.  I love reading the same story told from a different POV, especially if it's a romance and I wish more author's would do it.

Skin in the Game by Jackie Barbosa (Netgalley)
I love Brazen books and all their titles.  They are easy reading, fun, romantic and usually fairly quick reads.  This is their latest offering, due to be published later this month.

Wife in Name Only by Hayson Manning (Netgalley)
I like the sound of this Adult romance title and it's mostly set on a tropical island which works for me!!

Rouge by Leigh. T Moore (Netgalley)
This is a New Adult book set in the underground theatre world of 1890's New Orleans.  Already, I'm intrigued.

School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani (Netgalley)
This book was brought to my attention by one of my bestie blogger friends Viv who told me how awesome the book trailer for this looked.  I watched it and immediately agreed.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the synopsis and I'm intrigued to read it.

The Winter Queen by Amber Argyle (For Review and Bought)
Have you seen this book cover? Stop what you're doing and go and look it up immediately, it's BEAUTIFUL.  As someone whose first book EVER was The Snow Queen, of course I was going to be interested in this fantasy.   Whilst I have a copy for review, it's actually been released now and the kindle version is inexpensive and so I've just bought it.  Supporting authors FTW!

I think I'm calling this 'The Katie Ashley' edition of Letterbox Love since I bought quite a few of her books.  Seriously, if you haven't read anything of hers yet and you like romance, get reading her books!  Start with The Proposition ;) Anyway, you may or may not know this but recently I had to cancel my bank card and get a replacement.  Living without convenient access to your money is bad enough but when I lost my 'One Click' ability on Amazon, I was kind of devastated LOL.  As you can see, I've now got my replacement card and made up for it (although I shouldn't have as I'm supposed to be saving for my holiday).  This has been a great week for books and I can't wait to read Goddess.  I've just recently read All Our Yesterday's by Cristin Terrill (coming out in Aug/Sept) and OMG put that one on your wishlist.  AMAZING debut time travel novel.  So good that I'm pre-ordering the hardback.

I hope you all had a great week for books and as always, please share your links below.  I swear, one day I will figure out how to use Mr Linky!

  1. Ah, Doll Bones! I love Holly Black and can't wait to read this! My copies of The Elite and The Eternity Cure have all been delivered home instead of to uni - the pain of waiting!
