How many books will there be in the series? And what can we expect from Shift?

At this point, I think there will be three books in the series. Originally I thought four, but after writing SHIFT, the number 3 keeps coming up as significant. So think it would be better as a trilogy. But I need to start writing Book 3 before I can be sure. So ask me again in six months!

In SHIFT, we’ll find out the answers to a lot of Aura’s questions about her parents and their connection to the Shift. But of course those answers will lead to more questions, as answers often do. On the personal side, the love triangle will be settled, but not until after it gets much more complicated (a love pentagon?).

Are you writing anything else at the moment or have any ideas in the pipeline? Will they be paranormal in nature?

Yep, everything I’m writing or have written is paranormal. In December, I’ll have a short story in a YA vampire anthology called ETERNAL: MORE LOVE STORIES WITH BITE. Then SHADE’s sequel SHIFT comes out in May. My fourth vampire book for adults, LET IT BLEED, comes out in August. In the fall, Logan Keeley from SHADE and SHIFT gets to tell his story in an anthology called ENTHRALLED, which is a collection of stories by the authors on this year’s Smart Chicks Kick It Tour.

And since both the SHADE and the WVMP RADIO series will be ending in the next couple of years, my mind is already cooking up some new ideas. One is an adult urban fantasy series that has a cast of unique monsters (some new, some classic) and humans who have developed some odd paranormal abilities to deal with them. The other is a YA stand-alone that I can’t even begin to talk about. It’s so new and fresh in my mind, I worry that it’ll wither if it’s brought out into the light.

What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?

Either carving jack o’ lanterns or visiting this amazing corn maze in southern Pennsylvania. Neither of which I’ve done for the last two years, I’ve been so busy writing books. But this year I’m taking the last two weeks of October off from writing—the last several months have been crazy with deadlines—so maybe we’ll get to do our fun Halloween traditions again.

If you could be any supernatural creature, what would you be and why?

A werecat! But only if it didn’t hurt to go through the change.

Favourite scary movie?

Dark City. It’s more science fiction than horror, but those Strangers are freaky!

  1. Fab interview! I'm really glad to hear the love triangle in Shade will get settled in Shift, even if things get more complicated first. I'm not a big fan of them and it's worse when they get dragged out. I loved Shade so much, I can't wait to see what happens next!

  3. Thanks for having me, Lynsey! This Crossroads tour is a ton of fun. :-)

Oh, and an update: That YA vampire short story anthology (ETERNAL) just came out. When I answered the interview questions I had been told that it would be out by December, but I guess they got it out in time for Halloween. Yay!

  4. I can't wait to read Logan's story! I finished Shade the other day and it's up there with best book ever. I love the cover of Shift! I hope Aura gets to wear that dress somewhere! Supernatural Snark and I have been wondering how the Irish/Scottish rivalry thing is going to come into play besides Logan's sarcastic comments about giving them the bagpipes as a joke.
