The Vampire Diaries - Support L.J. Smith

So we've all heard of The Vampire Diaries, right? I absolutely LOVE this series written by L.J. Smith and I can't wait to watch a new episode every week. Imagine my reaction when I found out this week that L.J. Smith is to be fired from the show and replaced with a ghostwriter. What the hell is going on?! She WROTE the story, she CREATED the characters and so as far as I'm concerned, The Vampire Diaries belongs to her. Apparently not.

I want to direct you to a blog called "I Swim for Oceans" which is where I found out about the news and Melissa explains why this is happening. Please click here to read the story.

I agree with Melissa that this is a HUGE mistake and if there's ANYTHING book bloggers and fans of The Vampire Diaries can do about this, when we will! Spread the word - facebook it, tweet it, blog about it, tell your friends and PLEASE, PLEASE sign the petition here.

I want to support L.J. Smith and so I'm giving away one set of UK paperback copies of her books 1-5. These are the TV show tie in books. To win, please sign the petition (I'm working on the honour system here) and leave a comment below with your name and e mail address. This is a UK only contest HOWEVER if you are willing to pay for postage, then you can enter from any other country. Deadline is 21st February.

  1. I rented the dvd's for the first series of this just a week or two ago, and you know, I think I must be the only person every to not love this series. I didn't even like it. I was so disappointed. =( But then, we can't all like the same things can we otherwise there would only be 1 tv channel lol.

I heard that she's been fired because she wanted it to end up as Damon+Elena but the publishers wanted Stefan+Elena...?
This creation is hers. These characters are her. The Vampire Diaries is her! It won't be the same without her!

  8. I've actually not read or watched any of TVD, but I am still totally shocked by this!! It's the authors work, how the hell can her intended outcome be the wrong one?! The way she's been treated is just insane.

    I signed the petition.

  9. It's like Gossip Girl and True Blood all over again, but this time it's far worse becaue they are getting rid of the creator! What is happening to the literary-to-telivision crossover world.

  10. She's not being fired from the show actually, she's being fired from the actual book series. The show won't be affected at all. And it is still all unconfirmed. I'm still hoping it'll work out in her favour.

  12. This happens all the time. Gilmore Girls is a great example. Of course, it's not based on a book, but they fired the creators as well and the next season just lost its life. I hope that doesn't happen with the Vampire Diaries as well.

  15. I think it is shocking. I was so upset to hear this. I agree with Kate above I loved Gilmore Girls and they fired their creators and the next season was awful. I have loved LJS books since I was a teen reading the Nightworld books she is fantastic. Let's get this sorted. x
